About the event
Pete Kaslik is the author of The Hexagon Salon, a story about changing education and society. He is a retired community college math professor. During his career, he saw a system that prioritized efficiency over inspired learning. Courses are taught in discrete disciplines focusing on details, without ever blending concepts to show the big, interconnected picture. A meaningful "why" is missing from most of what is taught.
The book uses a fictional story to create a more engaging way of investigating some of the weaknesses of our current system and explore an alternative vision for education. While written for undergraduate educators, the ideas in this book may also be useful for K12 and homeschool systems.
